What's the maximum rider weight for the Waydoo Evo? (updated in 2026)

Waydoo recommends 286 lb on the 6000W motor. We put 350 lb on one board and foiled. Here's what rider weight changes, and which Evo setup fits a heavier rider.

Waydoo says the 6000W motor is good for 286 lb, and the 4000W is good for 198. That's the manufacturer's recommendation, and it's what you'll see on the spec sheet.

Just for fun, we wanted to see how much further past that we could get.

So we loaded up one board. Chris at 170, a friend at 120, and Toni, Chris's dog, at 60, and we foiled no problem. How much weight can a Waydoo Evo hold?

The most we've tested so far is 350 lb on the Evo Max, using the 6000W motor and a C1500 front wing. We've tried it with both the Voyager and Glide and got pretty similar results.

Chris weighs about 170 lb, so testing the upper weight limit takes a little creativity. Basically, we load the board up with whoever happens to be around. Chris is 170, his friend is 120, and Toni is about 60, which put 350 lb on one board and one foil. It got up, and we were able to ride it.

Based on that test, we think the setup probably has enough power to get into the 400 lb range. But we haven't actually tested that yet, so we're not going to claim it can.

It's also important to say that 350 lb isn't an official Waydoo weight rating. That's just the most we've personally put on the board and successfully ridden in Biscayne Bay. Two of the people on the board ride a lot and know how to move their weight around to help the board get on foil. Toni was mostly along for the ride.

So the test shows us that the Evo Max has more capability than the spec sheet might suggest. It doesn't mean a 340 lb first-time rider should expect exactly the same result.

We also haven't done enough testing with the 4000W motor to give you a real number. We suspect it can handle more than the recommended 198 lb, but until we've tested it ourselves, we'd rather not guess.

Why does rider weight change how an eFoil rides?

Rider weight doesn't suddenly stop an eFoil from working once you hit a certain number. What it changes is how much power and speed it takes to get you up on foil.

The foil has to lift the rider, board, and everything else out of the water, and it creates that lift as water moves across the wing. The more weight you're carrying, the more speed you need before the foil can generate enough lift.

That's why heavier riders usually notice the biggest difference during takeoff. Once you're up and flying, the extra weight becomes much less noticeable.

Most of that transition happens in a pretty small speed range. At around 5 mph, you're riding the board across the water like a powered surfboard. By around 10 mph, the foil is starting to take your weight and lift the board out of the water.

For a heavier rider, almost all of the hard work happens between those two points.

That's also why technique and efficiency matter more than the number on the scale. You want to get the board moving and planing first, then let the foil start lifting you. A lot of people who struggle are trying to force the board onto foil too early, before it has enough speed. That burns power right when you need it most.

Which Waydoo Evo setup is best for a heavier rider?

If you're a heavier rider, the weight limit is only part of the question. The board, motor, wing and battery all change how easy it is to get up and stay on foil. For most bigger riders, we'd start with the 130L Evo Max, the 6000W motor, a C1500 wing and the larger battery. Which board, the 130L Evo Max or the 90L Pro Plus?

If you're a bigger rider, we'd usually just go with the 130L Evo Max.

Most people buy the 90L Pro Plus, and it's a great all-around board. It gives you a more responsive feel once you're riding, so it's still a good option if you don't need as much float.

The 130L Evo Max gives you more volume, which means more float before the motor even starts doing much. You're sitting higher in the water, the board gets onto a plane more easily, and the whole takeoff feels calmer. That's why we'd lean toward it for a heavier rider.

It's also the board Chris uses for lessons and new riders.

The trade-off is size. It's a bigger board to store and carry around, and the 90L will feel a little more responsive once you're up and riding. On land the 130L looks pretty big, but once you're in the water, it doesn't feel nearly as big.

The Master Plus is the smaller, more advanced option in the lineup. It's built more for riders who already know how to foil and want a more dynamic ride. If rider weight, float and an easier takeoff are your main concerns, it wouldn't be where we'd start.

Which motor and propulsion system?

For a heavier rider, we'd go with the 6000W motor and the standard prop.

The standard prop is the setup we recommend when you need more thrust, and it's also what we used for the 350 lb test. It gives you more power delivery than the Jet Drive and still has a prop guard.

The Jet Drive is a different trade-off. It's the safest setup because there's no exposed prop, and it can be a great choice for families. But it also gives you less thrust, which isn't ideal when rider weight is already making takeoff harder.

The folding prop is more for wave and wake riding, where you want less drag once you're off the power. It isn't the setup we'd choose specifically to solve a rider-weight problem.

Which front wing should a heavier rider choose?

We'd stay with a C1500, either the Glide or the Voyager.

Both are bigger, stable wings and give you plenty of lift at lower speeds. That's especially useful for a heavier rider because you don't have to push the board as fast before the foil starts carrying you.

The Glide is the higher-aspect option, while the Voyager is lower aspect and feels comfortable at slower speeds. We've used both and get pretty similar results for this kind of setup.

The smaller 1100 wings are faster and more responsive, but they also need more speed and are less stable. If getting enough lift is already the challenge, going to a smaller wing usually isn't the direction we'd take.

Which battery?

If you're a heavier rider, we'd probably spring for the 2300Wh Powerflite.

A heavier setup pulls more power, especially during takeoff, so the same battery gives you less time on the water than a lighter rider would get. The price gap between the two packs is small next to the ride time you get back.

Does flight assist help a heavier rider?

It can help, especially while you're learning.

Flight assist reads the board's height above the water and its angle, then adjusts the throttle to help keep the ride more level. For a heavier rider, that can take some of the work out of keeping everything steady while you're learning the transition from riding on the water to riding on foil.

Does rider weight affect how long a Waydoo Evo battery lasts?

Yes. Rider weight is one of the things that changes how much range you get out of a battery.

A heavier rider generally needs more power to get up on foil and keep the board flying, so you should expect a little less ride time from the same battery than a lighter rider would get.

Chris is around 170 lb and has ridden about 20 miles on one cycle with the 2300Wh battery. That's a real ride we've done, but it's not a range number we'd use for everybody. Your weight, speed, wing, conditions and how aggressively you're riding all change it.

Wing choice matters too. A bigger wing can carry you at a lower speed, which usually makes the whole setup more efficient. That's one reason we like pairing heavier riders with a C1500 rather than trying to make a smaller, faster wing work.

What if you're heavier than the Waydoo Evo's limit?

If you're well above the Waydoo recommendation, we'd look at a different setup rather than trying to force the Evo to work.

The one that raises the ceiling is the Moovi G3 electric jet surfboard. It carries up to 330 lb, the highest weight capacity of anything we currently stock. It stays on the surface of the water instead of lifting onto a foil, so it feels different from an eFoil. We wouldn't call it an easier version of the same thing. There's also the Hydroflyer Cruiser, though it's worth being straight about what it does and doesn't solve. At 260 lb it doesn't hold more than the Evo. What it gives you is handlebars.

It's the only board we use in the school that's built around handlebars from the start, and for some bigger riders that extra point of support makes the learning process much more comfortable. You're not trying to balance with nothing to hold onto while you're also learning how to control the foil.

What do we recommend for eFoil riders over 250 lb taking a lesson in Miami?

If you're over 250 lb and you're coming to us for a lesson, the biggest thing is making sure you're learning on the right setup from the start.

We'd usually put you on the 130L Evo Max with the 6000W motor and a C1500 wing. The extra board volume gives you more float, the bigger motor gives you more power for takeoff, and the C1500 gives you more lift at lower speed.

From there, the main thing we work on is efficiency.

A heavier rider needs a little more speed before the foil starts carrying them, so you don't want to rush the takeoff. Get the board moving, let it come up onto a plane, and then start bringing the foil up. Trying to foil too early just uses more power and makes the board harder to control.

That's also why we like teaching this in Biscayne Bay. The flatter, shallower water gives you time to work on the takeoff without swell moving the board around underneath you.

We also normally use the 27-inch mast in these conditions. You still have enough mast to learn the full ride, but it's a comfortable setup for the shallower water where we teach.

And don't get too hung up on the number on the scale. At 250 or 280 lb, the question isn't just whether the board has enough power. It's whether the board, wing and motor are working together and whether you're getting onto a plane efficiently.

If you are over 250 lb, the number that matters is not the limit. It is whether the board, wing and motor are working together. We would start you on the 130L Evo Max, the 6000W motor with the standard prop, a C1500 wing and the 2300Wh battery. Then get the board planing first and let the foil lift you, instead of trying to fly it early.

Is there a weight limit for eFoil lessons in Miami?

We teach on the 130L Evo Max with the 6000W motor because it's the most forgiving setup we have for new riders.

If you're close to or above Waydoo's recommended weight, just let us know before the lesson. That way we can have the right board, wing and battery ready for you when you arrive.

Can two people ride a Waydoo Evo at the same time?

Yes, but it's more of a fun test than a normal way to ride.

We've had Chris, a 120 lb friend and Toni on one board at a combined 350 lb, and we were able to get it up on foil.

It takes an experienced rider controlling the board, so it's not something we'd recommend as a normal beginner setup.

Does it take longer to learn to eFoil if you're heavier?

Not necessarily.

For a heavier rider, having enough board volume and the right wing usually matters more than adding extra lesson time. A bigger board gives you more float and makes the takeoff easier.

What's the weight limit on the older Waydoo Flyer One?

The older Waydoo Flyer One was rated to 220 lb.

The current Evo gives heavier riders more options in board size, motor power and wing choice, which is why we'd generally point a bigger rider toward the newer platform.

Does the Flyer Pod help a heavier rider?

It can help, especially if you're using the 90L Pro Plus.

The Flyer Pod adds float and stability, so it makes the smaller board more forgiving while you're learning.

But if your main concern is rider weight rather than balance, we'd usually just go with the 130L Evo Max. You're getting the extra float directly from the board instead of adding an attachment.
