Should I buy a Waydoo Evo?

In recent years, the world of water sports has seen a surge of new sports, with electric hydrofoils emerging as a favorite pastime on beaches everywhere. One name that has gained prominence for its low price and quality build is Waydoo. We've been using the Flyer One Plus for eFol lessons and fun in Miami for 4 years now, so we know a thing or two about the brand. Recently we tested the new Waydoo Evo and we're blown away. With a new modular mast system, new motor options, battery options, a longer ride time, and new wing options the Evo Brings a lot to the table.

You might be wondering: should I buy a Waydoo EVO? With big upgrades from the Waydoo Flyer One Plus, the Evo is a compelling new choice. In this blog, we'll dive into the details to help you make an informed decision. We have a Waydoo EVO review you can read here to learn more about whats new.

What is a Waydoo Evo?

Waydoo is a brand known for its electric hydrofoil surfboards, referred to simply as eFoils. These boards use a combination of hydrofoil and an electric motor to lift the rider above the water's surface. You can think of a foil as an airplane wing under the water. The foil is attached to a mast connected to the board you will be standing on.

The concept is akin to flying over the water on a "magic carpet," offering a completely different experience from traditional surfing or paddle boarding. eFoils do not depend on weather conditions for power; they can use the motor for flight and can be used by various people for different purposes. For some, it's a fun toy to keep on the boat; for others, it's a way to ride waves or wake that would otherwise be too small to ride with a surfboard. And for others, it's become a lifestyle to get outside and enjoy the water with family and friends.

Waydoo stands out from other eFoils for many reasons, from the low price point to the ultra-durable yet soft EPP foam deck. Some of the features that might appeal to you are as follows:

Key Features of Waydoo eFoils

Waydoo Flyer One EVO Performance and Speed

Despite their amazing price, Waydoo eFoils are designed to deliver the highest performance. They feature a powerful electric motor that allows riders to reach speeds up to 29 mph, making them suitable for leisurely cruises and adrenaline-pumping adventures. This is the industry standard; you won't miss out on speed. The new Evo has the option for two motors so you can go even faster.

Waydoo Flyer One EVO Ease of Use

One of Waydoo eFoils' selling points is its user-friendliness. The learning curve is relatively short, and even beginners can start enjoying the experience even faster on the new model. With Stability assist, the Evo has ride sensor tech to aid in throttle adjustment and stability.

The boards come with intuitive remote controls that allow you to adjust the speed and manage the ride easily, giving you the confidence to master it quickly. The new Waydoo Evo is the easiest model to use and upgrade.

The Waydoo Evo now has a fast modular system for swapping out the motor, mast or wings. The new Voyager wings are incredibly easy to use and you can pair them with your choice of new motors. One for speed and one for ease of use.

Waydoo Flyer One EVO Portability and Setup

Waydoo eFoils are designed for portability. They can be easily disassembled and transported. Setting up the board takes about 5-10 minutes, allowing you to enjoy your water adventures wherever and whenever you want. The Evo can now use wheels on the board for transportation making it easier to get on the water.

Waydoo Battery Life and Range

Another critical factor is the battery life of Waydoo eFoils. The Waydoo Evo has up 90-135 minutes of ride time on a full charge, which is a huge upgrade compared to the Flyer One, which offers a ride time of 60 to 90 minutes. The new Waydoo Evo Batteries have an LCD Display and double as a power bank!

Charging the Waydoo battery is easy but takes 2 to 3 hours, so planning ahead is important to maximize your time. Waydoo eFoil batteries are built to last, with industry-standard construction and safety features to prevent issues like overheating or overcharging.

The company is backed by the tech giant DJI! With proper care, these batteries can offer a long service life, making your investment worthwhile. Moreover, Waydoo provides a comprehensive warranty and reliable customer support, ensuring you're covered for any issues or concerns.

How to care for your Waydoo Evo eFoil and Battery.

Lithium-ion batteries are not cheap, and replacing a Waydoo battery can be significant. Proper care is essential for eFoil ownership. Consider the following maintenance tips to get the most out of your Waydoo battery.

Regular charging: Avoid letting the battery fully discharge. Regularly topping up the charge can help maintain the battery's health and extend its lifespan.

Proper eFoil Battery Storage: Store the battery in a cool, dry place when not in use. Avoid exposing it to extreme temperatures, which can degrade its performance and longevity.

Routine eFoil Inspections: Regularly inspect the eFoil and the battery for signs of damage or wear. If you notice anything unusual, such as swelling or corrosion on the battery or damage to the electrical components, consult a professional or contact Waydoo customer support.

Use the manufacturer's Charger: Always use the charger provided by Waydoo or recommended by the manufacturer. Using third-party chargers can lead to improper charging and potential damage to the battery.

Pros of Buying a Waydoo EVO

Extensive upgrades from the Flyer One Plus: The Waydoo Evo has some significant upgrades from the Waydoo Flyer One Plus. We have an entire blog post about the Waydoo Evo here.

Fun and freedom on the water: Riding an eFoil is unlike any other sport. The stoke of gliding above the water is unique and offers a fresh, exciting way to explore lakes, rivers, and coastal areas. Plus, you get to be outside and in nature, spending time with family and friends.

Quality and Durability: Waydoo has built a reputation for producing high-quality, durable eFoils. The materials and construction are designed to withstand the rigors of frequent use in various water conditions.

Family-friendly Pastime: In today's hyper-tech-oriented world, getting yourself and your family outside to experience the real world is more important than ever. eFoils are a perfect way to have a fun day on the water regardless of where you live.

Community: eFoiling is more than a sport; it's a lifestyle and a community. It's a great way to start conversations with new friends, and sharing the stoke is a surefire way to build new relationships.

Cost: One of the primary drawbacks of purchasing a Waydoo EVO eFoil is the cost. While it's the most affordable quality eFoil available, about half the price of everyone else, it's still an investment. We do not recommend anything cheaper as there will be quality and safety compromises. Some amazing high-end eFoils are closer to $16,000! The good news is with the release of the Evo, the Flyer One Plus can be purchased for a lower price! We're happy to chat about all the different options via email or phone.

Buying a Waydoo is a small investment, but you'll get the most bang for your buck with this phenomenally well-built, affordable eFoil.

Where can I try the Waydoo Evo in Florida?

If you want to try eFoiling in Florida, book lessons with us, and we'll share the eFoil stoke. Here's what some of our customers have to say about their Waydoo experience:

Josh G

"What a fantastic experience! Chris was really great with helping us organize the lesson for 2 of us. Parking was easy. We toured with the Waydoo boards around Normandy islands. Chris provided excellent tips on how we can hydrofoil better. He is so skilled he is able to surf and at the same time video tape every thing we did. After, he was able to airdrop all of the videos onto my phone which, made the experience even more special. I was able to try both the original Waydoo and the newer model which was nice to try out different boards. I recommend this to anyone and I plan to come back for another lesson when I'm back in Miami in April.
